SITE (Society for Incentive Travel Excellence) has published another report presenting trends in the incentive travel industry. We are sharing the most interesting of the report’s conclusions below.

Business effectiveness

 

  • Incentive travel works
  • The moods are optimistic
  • Importance of sustainability is growing

Budgets

 

  • Incentive travel budgets keep increasing
  • Technology investment is on the rise
  • The buyers are managing costs in a more active manner

Logistics

 

  • North and South America, the Caribbean and Western Europe were the most popular incentive travel destinations in 2017
  • Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and Asia experienced a drop in interest

Selection of destinations

 

  • Both incentive travel organizers and customers have similar ideas about what matters the most
  • The key selection criteria include: matching the destination to the profile of the group, safety, as well as quality vs. budget.

Despite growing budgets, the customers were seeking to save money in different ways:

 

  • In 2017 35% of them were looking for a cheaper destination (in 2016 – 27%)
  • In 2017 27% of them opted for a cheaper hotel (in 2016 – 23%)
  • In 2017 40% of them opted for cheaper attractions (in 2016 – 29%)

88% of customers are supporters of incentive travel and consider it to be an effective motivator. Most importantly, this share has grown by more than 5% compared to 2016.

The survey was conducted in 2017 on a sample of 574 professionals in 72 countries.
